Two large lottery jackpots up for grabs to start 2018

Posted January 03, 2018

Mega Millions made a chance in October, giving you more numbers to choose from and making it harder to hit the jackpot.

As of Tuesday morning, the Mega Millions jackpot is $343 million.

For only the second time in history, USA lottery players have two opportunities to try for jackpots exceeding $300 million. The grand prize for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing is an estimated $361 million - the eighth largest jackpot in the game's history. The jackpot is $343 million and the victor will be chosen Tuesday. That's the highest it's been since August, when one ticket for the $758.7 million jackpot was sold in Chicopee.

Four jackpots have been won during that time frame, including the seventh largest prize ever, $380 million on January 4, 2011; winners in Idaho and Washington shared that jackpot. "I don't know what I do if I won, but it would would make 2018 the best year ever". In August, an IL player won a $393 million jackpot.

There was also no victor in Saturday night's Powerball drawing, which puts Wednesday night's jackpot at about $440 million.

At no time in history have two US jackpots been simultaneously greater than $400 million, but that milestone may be reached if the games roll another drawing or two. You can watch the drawing live at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday, right before News 6 at 11 p.m.

Of course, they remain two separate lotteries, and the odds of winning either, let alone both, are astronomically stacked against ticket buyers.
