Officer Dead, 4 Others Wounded In Shooting South Of Denver, Police Say

The shootings occurred after deputies responded to a call at about 5:15 a.m. local time to what they thought was a domestic problem at an apartment complex but which turned out to be a disturbance unrelated to any domestic dispute. But some reports suggest that five deputies and two civilians were shot by the suspect, one deputy confirmed deceased.

Authorities in Colorado say five deputies were shot and one has died after a shooting outside Denver.

Two civilian residents of the complex were shot by the gunman and have non-life threatening injuries, Sheriff Tony Spurlock reported at a presser.

A procession for the fallen officer will take place from Littleton Hospital. "Please avoid this area".

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Parker Police Department, Lone Tree Police Department, Castle Rock Police Department and Colorado State Patrol are all on accident alert because of this incident.

"Any citizens in the affected area are instructed to shelter in place, avoid windows and stay away from exterior walls", the office tweeted.

An emergency shelter has been set up at Highlands Ranch Recreation Center at Eastridge at 9568 S University Blvd.

The slain officer was 29-year-old Zackari Parrish, who had worked for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for about seven months. It said multiple deputies were injured but did not give their conditions.
