The 24-year-old model wore a shimmering scarlet gown for her last walk as Miss Universe at the LA event, before handing over her title to Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

Ninety-two women from around the world participated in the competition. Laura Gonzalez from Colombia was the runner-up while Davina Bennett from Jamaica came third. She helped develop a program to train women in self-defense in various situations after she was robbed at gunpoint a month after she was crowned as Miss South Africa.

American TV host Steve Harvey wasn't scared to poke fun at his infamous gaffe in 2015, when he famously announced the wrong person as Miss Universe.

Her half-sister, who has a disability, is credited to be Miss Universe Nel-Peters' biggest motivation.
