ZTE introduced the original folding smartphone Axon M

Posted October 19, 2017

ZTE's Axon M has been launched in the U.S. exclusively on AT&T, and will go on sale starting next month.

Interestingly, there are four different modes which you can try out in this device. Is this what you thought of when you imagined what a "foldable phone" would look like?

In extended mode, the two screens join together to form one large screen and offer a viewing experience of a tablet. There's also Traditional Mode, which allows you to fold in one of the displays, giving you a more "normal" smartphone to use in daily use, one-handed. Chinese manufacturer ZTE has unleased the ZTE Axon M, which they are claiming to the first smartphone with a foldable dispolay.

The ZTE Axon M announced this week offers two adjoining displays that can fold out, turning a ho-hum 5.2-inch Android smartphone into an impressive 6.75-inch tablet.

There's only one camera, but this is a dual-screened phone, and when it's closed, there's a screen on both sides.

For many of our readers who have been waiting years for a folding phone, does this device pique your interest?

ZTE Mobile Devices is a division of ZTE Corporation, a global telecommunications equipment, networks and mobile devices company headquartered in Shenzhen, China.

Multitasking on the Axon M may be a great experience. There was a huge improvement done to the cameras and a big number of dual-lens camera smartphones have come in, but finally, one brand is working to bring two screens on one device.

Apart from that, a Snapdragon 821, 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB ROM complete the bulky hardware. You get 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD. Driving this innovation was research cited by ZTE that 68 percent of smartphone owners report "frequently" switching between multiple apps on their phone; thus, ZTE designed the Axon M's dual functionality.

Use it as a tent: Flip out the secondary screen and give mirror the screen, on this mode, the secondary display will show the same things that are being carried out in the primary display in the real time. There's a 20MP main camera that's both rear-facing and a selfie camera, because of the funky screens. The first lets people run 2 apps simultaneously on each display, so they can browse through websites on one screen while running a video in the other. On the battery front, the new ZTE Axon M comes packed with a powerful 3,180mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
