Dead, Several Injured in Mass Shooting at Nashville Church

Officials in Tennessee say that at least six people were injured in church shooting outside Nashville on Sunday morning. NBC news reported one fatality.

The Nashville Metropolitan Police report that another victim was pistol-whipped and was taken to the hospital for treatment as well. It was not immediately clear what injuries the suspect sustained.

The MNPD said it received the first call of multiple shots fired at 11:15 a.m. CT.

Although injured, the usher went to the parking lot, took a gun out of his vehicle and re-entered the sanctuary.

The church, which has a weekly service at 10 a.m., is located at 3890 Pin Hook Road.

The the gunman shot himself near in the face when the man returned.

The area around the church is shut down, while police continue their investigation.

According to the Nashville Fire Department's twitter account, eight people were wounded, including the shooter.

Minister Joey Spann leads the congregation at the Burnette Chapel Church, according to its website. They said of the other five percent, some would have died on the way to the hospital.
