Slovenia beats Serbia 93-85 to win Eurobasket title

Posted September 20, 2017

Despite injuries to two of their starting players, Slovenia were able to hold off Serbia to cap off an unbeaten EuroBasket tournament.

Heat guard Goran Dragic nearly single-handedly put Slovenia in the lead Sunday and it held on to beat Serbia, 93-85, earning Dragic MVP honors in the EuroBasket2017 final in Istanbul.

Dragic was to sit out the three and a half minutes of the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket final in Istanbul's Sinan Erdem Dome after experiencing cramps.

Pau Gasol finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds; his little brother Marc helped him with 25 points.

"We are an uptempo team ... the importance of the game shouldn't change what we do", said Slovenia's Serb coach, Igor Kokoskov.

Porzingis dropped 34 points and pulled down six boards in Latvia's quarterfinal game against Dragic's Slovenia, but it wasn't enough (that was the same game where KP got into it with Anthony Randolph).

A superb break and dunk by Luka Doncic kept the Slovenian run going and the 31-year-old Dragic then caught fire, scoring freely and netting a pair of vital three-pointers to give his side a nine-point lead at half-time.

Serbia: Bogdan Bogdanovic (22 + 5 assists), Macvan (18 + 5 rebounds), Percevic (8 + 5 rebounds).

"You want to play well in the Final".
