Huddersfield Town: Reid and Carroll start as Bilic makes five changes

Posted September 13, 2017

It was West Ham's first home game of the season as the London Stadium was being used for the world athletics championships in August.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic admits he has felt "the pressure for a whole year now" and that it was no different as they beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at the London Stadium of Monday.

The hosts were rewarded for their dominance in the 71st minute when Pedro Obiang opened the scoring with a deflected effort from distance.

The team certainly did that, but it did take a some good fortune with the first goal deflection to get them in front. That is the situation now, we feel it is our home.

Kouyate poked wide at the other end shortly afterwards and it looked as though West Ham's wait for a league win would go on until fortune intervened.

Sam Allardyce lauded Andy Carroll's powerful performance against Huddersfield Town in the Hammers' 2-0 win that marked their first league victory of the season. After three defeats your confidence is a bit down and all that, but the lads did everything we asked from them. A loss tonight would probably have done for Bilic after a awful start to the league, but West Ham weren't lucky tonight, they were impressive.

Yet it claimed much concerning this game that the house side might not make them pay from the corner and when they ultimately took the lead 18 mins from completion, it was with a substantial slice of luck.

"I am pleased with the way we played".

Birthday boy Bilic, 49 on Monday, was booed when he subbed off Javier Hernandez, off-form and uncomfortable with playing to the left of Carroll, for Ayew.

"Now we're going to smile for 48 hours but we have to get back to work straight away and get some points at West Brom".

The 27-year-old Senegal worldwide is available for Monday's Premier league visit of Huddersfield Town as Bilic hopes to avoid a fourth straight defeat. I think we've had tough run.
