Could James Franco Win An Oscar For The Disaster Artist?

Posted September 13, 2017

A24 has released the full trailer and poster for James Franco's upcoming comedy The Disaster Artist, the true story of the making of the film The Room, which has been called "the "Citizen Kane" of bad movies".

A United Kingdom release date for The Disaster Artist is yet to be announced.

James Franco and his brother/fellow actor Dave Franco are finally working together in the same film - and not like what they did in The Broken Tower.

"I laughed", Franco said.

"The Disaster Artist" received a standing ovation when it first screened as a work in progress at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March.

The movie is based on the book of the same name, written by Greg Sesteroand, that chronicles the saga of making what is generally considered the best worst movie of all time: 2003's cult favorite, "The Room". Franco's little bro, Dave, plays Sestero, and Seth Rogen plays a script supervisor whose job, it seems, is to be perpetually befuddled at what's going on.

That's not to say it isn't amusing - plenty of The Disaster Artist will have you keeling over in laughter.

Franco looks incredible in the role of Wiseau, and seems to have nailed his voice and mannerisms perfectly. As Wikipedia describes it, the movie is a melodramatic love triangle among an amiable banker named Johnny (Wiseau), his deceptive future wife Lisa (played by Juliette Danielle), and his conflicted best friend Mark (played by Greg Sestero).
