Central Florida Deputy Among 2 Killed in Car Crash Sunday

There have been at least three deaths during Hurricane Irma in Florida, including the deaths of Deputy Bridges and Sergeant Ossman, according to ABC News.

A Hardee County Sheriff's Office deputy who had been helping at an evacuation shelter was killed on her way home to pick up supplies for the shelter.

Deputy Bridges served as a civil process deputy with the Hardee County Sheriff's Office. She was planning on returning to work another shift this morning when she was killed.

Sgt. Joseph Ossman, 53, who worked at the Hardee County Correctional Institute, was on his way to work around 6:35 a.m. when he approached Crewsville Road while driving westbound on State Road 66, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the crash took place Sunday morning in Hardee County, located east of Sarasota.

"Our law enforcement and correctional officers work every day to keep Floridians safe", Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. Other details had not yet been released.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, visibility was low and it was raining at the time of the accident.
