Gulf states to mark end of Ramadan from Sunday

The decision to celebrate the festival on Sunday came following the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, the month following Ramzan.Official Twitter for Haramain, which gives updates about Makkah and Madinah, announced the sighting of the moon.

"Oman, however, has not sighted the moon, and thus declared Monday June 26 as the first day of Eid al-Fitr".

As soon the song is played, it creates a wave of gratification among the people and prompts them to get ready for celebrating the Eid.

President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed dispatched congratulatory cables to the leaders of Muslim countries on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. This year in India, Eid is expected to begin on Sunday evening, June 25, and end on Monday evening, June 26. The final confirmation of Eid al-Fitr depends on the sighting of the Shawwal moon in respective countries.

Preparations are already underway for August's Hajj, the world's largest pilgrimage, which sees Muslims from every corner of the globe travelling to Mecca. The committee did not receive any report about sighting the crescent moon.

All Muslim countries observe extended holidays for Eid al-Fitr, while most countries declare at least one-day national holiday for Eid.

Although it's traditional to seek the moon from the 29th of the month, scientific measurements of the moon as well as weather patterns show that the moon will most likely only be sighted on Sunday night. Here is all you need to know...

The Coalition of Muslim Organisations, Ghana, (COMOG) has called on Muslim chiefs and the stakeholders in the Muslim Community to reconsider the way Eid is being celebrated by Muslim youth to reflect the good image of Islam.

But, United States, United Kingdom, Canada and European countries normally rely on moon announcements by Saudi Arabia, Muslims in these countries and hence Muslims here will celebrate Eid al Fitr along with their counterparts in Arab states.
