Three names added to Law Enforcement Memorial

Each year around this time, we recognize National Police Week, in order to honor the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities.

Members of the law enforcement, department of corrections, state legislature, public and the media attended the event on the statehouse lawn. "We must not take those sacrifices for granted", he said.

H.R. 115, the Thin Blue Line Act- This bill will protect our first responders by including violence against local and state law enforcement officers, firefighters and other first responders to the list of aggravating factors that a jury must consider in federal death sentence cases. Williams formerly served as a police officer for the city of Brooksville and was a graduate of Hernando High School.

The Begaye-Nez administration has worked with the tribal council and law enforcement officials for a memorial wall that will be constructed at Window Rock Navajo Tribal Park to honor the fallen Navajo Police officers.

Williams was engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC over the weekend.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony recognized Navajo Police Officer Leander Frank, who died on August 30, 2016 in a traffic accident after responding to a disturbance call and former Navajo Police Chief Hoskie Thompson, who died on October 21, 1949.
